Robert Katz is a practicing attorney in Chicago, Illinois concentrating in the areas of bankruptcy and taxation. He also serves as a member of the Panel of Chapter 7 Trustees maintained by the United States Trustees's Office for the Northern District of Illnois and serves on the Trustee Advisory Committee.
Mr. Katz previously managed the Bankruptcy and Troubled Business Services Department for the Chicago Office of a national accounting firm. In that capacity, Mr. Katz rendered accounting and consulting services for Chapter 11 Debtors-In-Possession and Creditors' Committees, for Chapter 7 Trustees, and for the United States Bankruptcy Court as the appointed Examiner in Chapter 11 cases.
Mr. Katz served as both a staff attorney and bankruptcy analyst for the United States Trustee's Office in Chicago. He applied both legal and financial analysis skills on behalf of the United States Trustee's function to supervise the administration of Chapter 11 (reorganization) cases. His case management activities included conducting creditors' meetings, examining debtors, and forming creditors' committees. He initiated corrective actions to appoint trustees and examiners, and prepared and presented motions to dismiss and convert Chapter 11 cases to Chapter 7 liquidation proceedings. He represented the office routinely in bankruptcy court proceedings.
Mr. Katz was employed by the Internal Revenue Service for 11 years. As a Revenue Agent in the Examination Division, he conducted audits of individual, partnerships, and corporations, and served as both a classroom and on-the-job instructor. As a Special Agent in the Criminal Investigation Division, he conducted numberous investigations of possible criminal violations of the Internal Revenue Code.
Mr. Katz received a B.B.A. in accounting from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received a J.D. from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. He is an active memeber of the Chicago Bar Association Bankruptcy and Federal Tax Committees.
